NLR Sports Complex is a riverfront architectural project that engages with architecture of the ground by employing strategies to recover and expand the public domain in Little Rock and North Little Rock. With a focus on creating inclusive spaces for people to interact with mother nature, this project gives people the opportunity to be closer to the Arkansas River by bringing the river itself to the site by a series of courts.

The project’s design strategy addresses site-specific flooding challenges by elevating much of the structure above the flood zone. Inspired by the nearby Main Street Bridge and Arkansas River Bridge (I-30), the design incorporates a bridging concept that responds to and integrates with the surrounding infrastructure.

ENVELOPE
The parametric design was developed to create innovative and dynamic solutions to environmental conditions, optimizing daylight and ventilation to maintain energy efficiency throughout the year. The metal perforated panels provide shade on the South Facade as it provides character to the design along with parametric louvers that change width on spaces that require more daylight.
